The definition of an Amphicar, according to Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia, is quote ‘The Amphicar is an amphibious automobile, the first such vehicle mass-produced for sale to the public starting in 1961. The German vehicle was designed by Hanns Trippel and manufactured by the Quandt Group at Lübeck and at Berlin-Borsigwalde. Its name is a portmanteau of ‘amphibious' and ‘car'. The Amphicar was designed to be marketed and sold in the USA. Compared to most boats or cars, its performance was modest, and only 4000 were produced by 1965. This car is in full running order as it has been officially inspected and passed the tests of both road worthiness and sea worthiness. This Amphicar has a well fitted and fully operational black rag top as well as a new black boot with a red and white interior finish with red seat belts. The engine is the smooth running and original stock 1147 cc four cylinder engine with four forward gears and one reverse gear and has a manual transmission from the British Triumph Herald 1200. The Amphicar engine has a power output of 43 hp (32 kW) at 4750 revs per minute which is slightly more than the Triumph Herald had, due to a shorter exhaust. The Water Transmission Box has one forward gear and a single reverse gear and the bilge pump works perfectly.
